Job Description
We are a well-funded startup developing a new product that will transform the online music industry. We offer a dynamic and challenging experience within a highly creative and entrepreneurial work environment. This is an opportunity to join the founding team and have a key role in defining a large scale consumer web site.
We're looking for highly motivated developers who are exceptionally bright, well organised, and see the possibilities rather than capabilities of technology. You'll work in a small team at all stages of development, to create innovative back and front end features for a global audience.
Purpose:
The purpose of the Developer role is threefold; To produce software assets from functional and technical specifications; To produce associated assets (such as documentation) for a software system and; To provide technical expertise for system design, implementation and support.
Responsibilities:
Within the context defined above, the responsibilities of a Developer are as follows:
- To produce code assets adhering to departmental development standards.
- To produce associated assets adhering to departmental development standards.
- To provide input into the design of software systems, offering advice and thoughts and providing feedback.
- To adhere to departmental development standards for all activities.
- To provide support for a system including analysis, tracking and resolution.
- To utilise approved technologies for the development of systems.
- To understand and actively engage with departmental processes.
- To demonstrate a logical and structured approach to time management and task prioritisation.
- To ensure current skills are up-to-date through research and practice.
- To participate in team activities and team planning with the aim of improving team skills, awareness and quality of work.
Experience and Skills:
Core Skills:
- C#
- ASP .NET
- MS SQL Server (2005)
- XML
- Web Services (evidence may include WSE, WCF)
- HTML (cross browser)
- Javascript/JSON, Javascript Libraries (evidence may include JQuery, Prototype, Ajax.Net)
Essential Skills:
- OO Design (evidence may include UML, Design Patterns)
- TDD (evidence may include NUnit, MbUnit, CsUnit, NCover, NDepend, Rhino Mocks)
- Refactoring (evidence may include Resharper, Refactory)
- Continuous Integration (evidence may include Cruise Control, NAnt, MSBuild, TeamCity)
- Version Control (evidence may include SourceSafe, Team Foundation Server, CVS, Subversion)
- Software Development Lifecycle (evidence may include Team System, SourceForge Enterprise Edition, Methodologies; e.g. Waterfall, RUP, Scrum, Agile)
Desirable Skills:
- Object Relational Mapping (evidence may include NHibernate, IBatis .NET, EntityBroker, Linq To Sql / Entity Framework)
- Third party libraries - including open source (evidence may include dotLucene/Solr, Memcached, Spring.NET, Castle project, Rhino)
- Web development frameworks (evidence may include Asp MVC, Monorail, Rails, Django)
- Load testing (evidence may include WAS, ACT, OpenSTA)
- Automated testing (evidence may include Selenium, Fitnesse, Watir/Watin, RSpec)
- Scripting Languages - Ruby, Python
- Experience with Linux, & Cloud Infrastrucures (e.g. EC2/S3)
Reports To:
Lead Developer (Operational Tasks).
Development Manager (Line Manager).
Salary: £neg depending on experience
Start Date: ASAP
