The Assistant Editor’s role is to write content that accurately describes product features and attributes not clearly visible in a photograph. They ensure that Amazon.com serves up a professional, trustworthy site that makes it easy for customers to find and buy what they want and that draws them back with the promise of clear product descriptions, accurate information, and answers in advance any questions the customer may have about a product.
The Assistant Editor will be providing valuable information to the customer that will influence purchases and drive sales. Key job functions include:
* Measuring shoe heel heights and handbag dimensions
* Writing accurate, grammatically-correct product titles and descriptions
* Maintaining a high productivity level and meeting set deadlines provided by Seattle buying group
* The writer must be familiar with current fashion trends, shoe and handbag construction, styles, and terminology
* Proactively seeking missing or questionable information
Editors must be familiar with the Legal department's guidelines and FTC regulations and must use good judgment in determining when to contact Legal to have them review the details of content.
Because there is no formal proof step, copywriters should know when it is appropriate to ask for a formal review, especially when the content is high profile.
Amazon.com content should effectively communicate the desired messages (wording should be clear and easy to understand) and should provide helpful and concise buying information to customers. An essential role of an Assistant Editor is to write within style standards to ensure a consistent look and voice. This person must have excellent language skills and be extremely detail oriented.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
* At least 1 year in an office environment.
* Some retail experience preferred.
* Excellent writing and fact-checking skills.
* Resiliency: Must be flexible and adaptable to changes in the workplace and able to learn new technical skills and tools quickly.
* Efficiency: Able to multitask, is highly organized, and meets deadlines. Always looking for better processes and modes of communication so the editorial team is as efficient as it can be.
* Good communication skills in person, on the phone, and in e-mail.
* Self-starter: Must be self-motivated. Must be able to identify a problem then follow it through to resolution.
* Must be able to work independently and reliably with minimal supervision.
