We’re an ambitious start-up of less than 25 employees smack in the middle of the world’s most futuristic city, Tokyo, Japan, in the Shibuya district. We don’t have a park, and we don’t have any burritos, but we’ve got all kinds of odd characters working here, from brilliant geeks and semi-coherent visionaries to otaku-freaks and electronic music event organizers. Plus a banker or two just to keep things on the straight and narrow. We’re an interesting, smart group from all over the world (Iceland, Australia, the United States, Holland, Korea, Romania, Canada, Japan, the Philippines, Sweden, Belgium, and Italy, the last time we checked) united in a quest to change the way people learn.
Are You One of Us?
We’re going to solve big problems, in big ways. Or die trying. If you want to tackle tough problems at the intersection of learning, human memory, social web applications, and social media, you might be one of us. Or you might not. How about you drop us a line and found out?
What You Need to Be:
We’re looking for people who are smart, independent, and creative; who are happy with a pace of constant change and constant challenge; who can learn quickly on their own and make decisions under fire; and who combine analytical skills with outside-the-box dreaming. Passionate interest and involvement in open source, the open social web, ruby on rails, user interface design, computational linguistics, AI, and computer-assisted learning are a big big plus.
Your primary responsibilities will be:
* design and implementation of large-scale Rails 2.0 applications
* database design
* optimize database queries and learning algorithms
Qualifications:
* at least six months (preferably one year or more) of experience developing with Rails in a production environment
* in-depth understanding of SQL in general and MySQL in particular
* extensive experience with AJAX, XHTML, CSS, and XML
Knowledge of and experience with:
* ActiveRecord: associations, validation, callbacks
* ActionController: routing, filters and verification, caching
* ActionView: XML Builder templates, layouts and components, partials
