Lead Designer

We're looking for a Lead Visual Designer to join our brand new (but well-funded) startup based in downtown San Francisco. We're kind of secretive about what we're doing, so let's talk about that when we meet up (but we think it's pretty cool).

This is a great job for a seasoned and serious designer. We put the 'Visual' in there, since we're hiring Interaction Designers as well, so you can be responsible for one aspect but of course influence the other.

Responsibilities:

- Defining/developing the visual style
- Design flows, pages, icons, emails, the works
- Work with product and tech people to wrestle the technology into doing what you want it to
- Be a strong and consistent voice of clarity and simplicity in design and messaging
- Find/hire/manage designers

Skills:

- Well-argued and opinionated designer
- Solid sense of typography
- Conscientious and detail-oriented
- A good writer (writing is designing, as they say)
- Comfortable managing and prioritizing own and other's time

Experience:

- 3-5 years experience in a Lead Designer role
- Reasonably comfortable with HTML & CSS (someone else will be responsible for production code)
- People management experience preferred
- A great portfolio
