buzzd (http://buzzd.com/) is a location-sensitive city guide and social network on the mobile device. buzzd answers the question, "What’s going on around me right now? ™" by allowing consumers to get up-to-the minute information on what’s happening at any venue right now, rate events and connect with friends and other people in the area.

buzzd partners with carriers and content providers such as Helio, Virgin Mobile, Alltel, metroPCS, AT&T, Flavorpill, Time Out, ZAGAT, Metromix, Citysearch and many more. The company is based in New York City and backed by Monitor Ventures, Greycroft Partners, Blackberry Partners Fund, and Qualcomm Ventures. The company was founded by Nihal Mehta and Deepen Shah from ipsh!, the first mobile marketing agency in the U.S. which was acquired by Omnicom Group in 2005.

About You

You will be our Senior Director of Product Engineering. Not only will you have great development skills but you are someone who is a strategic thinker and can make technical decisions. Amongst other things you will collaborate with operations to steadily improve the scalability of the current site, while helping develop some really cool new tools and application features. Your work will be critical to meeting our growth and profitability targets and ensuring that our users experience a cool and consistently fast service. Responsibilities

• Oversee development of web / wap / sms application functionality
• Evaluate business requirements for technical feasibility
• Estimate, plan, track and provide status on technical projects and activities
• Identify and mitigate project risks
• Hire, train, mentor and manage developers
• Perform technical design and code reviews
• Approve and commit code for integration
• Design and develop application features
• Be a primary problem solving resource
• Oversee the technical work of vendor consultants and consulting teams
• Define and enforce company technical standards and best practices
• Evaluate technology vendors and products
• Develop, improve and enforce software development processes

Skills/Qualifications

• The candidate must have a BA/BS degree and 4+ years professional experience and a minimum of three years supervisory experience
• Data modeling and SQL
• Object-relational mapping frameworks
• Internet technologies (TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP, XML, RSS, AJAX, etc.)
• Software engineering methodologies
• Version control and release management practices
• Development and deployment of applications on Unix / Linux.
• Load testing, profiling and performance tuning.
