Head of UI Engineering/Design

Meetup’s mission is a Meetup Everywhere about Most Everything (a “M.E.M.E.") because the world needs more great local community groups. We want to help the world’s people self-organize.

In order to do so, it is critical that our site conveys the heart of that mission and has an elegant design that makes it easy and welcoming for people to use. Meetup is hiring a Head of UI Engineering/Design who will lead that initiative.

Responsibilities:

    *     Leads the vision for the look and feel of the user-facing product (site, email, etc) and drives the implementation of that vision with a focus on rapid development and high quality

    *         Serves as mentor and manager to a team of highly creative, design-focused UI Engineers

    *         Works with usability team to insure customer-driven approach to UI

    *         Works with product management team to ensure design and delivery of a cohesive, strategically aligned and easy-to-use end-user experience

    *         Serves as expert to product development teams on UI/UX and IA design

    *         Participates on self-organized, cross-functional product development teams

    *         Responsible for short- and long-term vision and strategy of UI Team

The successful candidate will:

    *     Be a hands-on do-er

    *         Take pride in you and your teams’ high quality work, no matter how small the project

    *         Have recent work experience in a start-up, consumer-facing internet environment (online community, social software experience preferred)

    *         Have a history of design that ellicits energy, excitement, emotion, hoots & hollers

    *         Bring a platform-focused way of thinking to our product and UI development

    *         Be an inspired and inspiring leader and mentor

    *         Demonstrate a record of creative and innovative thinking leading to live product and results

    *         Be excited by learning and sharing new technologies

    *         Be motivated by creating, but more importantly launching great work that touches millions of users

    *         Thrive in a highly collaborative, "startuppy", and decentralized team environment

Technical Knowledge/Skills:

    *     Agile product development

    *         UI Design

    *         HTML/XHTML markup using CSS

    *         JavaScript/DOM/AJAX

    *         Templating (PHP, JSP, etc)

    *         Document semantics and structure

    *         Information architecture

    *         Usability testing

    *         Accessibility considerations
