PWT Powertrain Hybrid Motor Design/ Development Engineer

Description

The Hybrid Electric Motor Design/Development Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing hybrid electric motor components for GM's World's Best Hybrid Powertrains. The individual will work with Powertrain Design and Development engineers, to develop requirements, design and implement production components. Support the test and development of Hybrid Motors and related components by demonstrating that requirements are met with analysis and dynamometer testing at GM's Test labs, Proving Grounds or Supplier locations. Strong teamwork and collaborative development skills are required. Creative people are encouraged to join a strong technical team moving the frontier of powertrain technology.
 
    *
      Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs
    * Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development
    * Performs complex design analysis
    * Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
    * Implements engineering changes
    * Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data
    * Defines system requirements
    * Solves engineering related problems
    * Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
    * Plans and implements test and/or development programs
    * Releases parts and subsystems for production
    * Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
    * Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing
    * Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
    * Travels as required

Qualifications
 
Basic Required

    *
      BS Degree in Engineering with concentration in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent training
    *
      Working knowledge of electric motor operation and design
    *
      Working knowledge of electric motor testing and development
    *
      Working knowledge of motor construction and insulation systems
    *

      Expertise in the design and development of magnets for motor applications


Basic Preferred

    *
      Working knowledge of electric motor manufacturing process
    *
      Able to develop electric motor designs for automotive applications
    *
      Able to complete testing and development of electric motors in a lab environment
    *
      Experience with product development for automotive, aerospace, or powertrain applications
    *
      Knowledge of Interior Permanent Magnet and Induction Machine Mechanical Design
    *
      Knowledge in lamination and winding manufacturing processes
    * High level of oral and written communication skills
    * Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
    * Familiarity with production processes such as foundry, forging, pressed metal and machine tool activities
    * High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
    * High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
    * Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods engineering
    * Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
    * Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
    * Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
