Director of Design

THE POSITION: The Director of Design will be responsible for structuring and managing design projects and design staff to establish and maintain high quality corporate design standards consistent with the business and design strategy.

Responsibilities:

 

 

Participate in the development and execution of strategic and tactical plans with VP, and other senior members of the management team.

Develop, approve and produce all creative work supporting apparel design effort for the business units, while maintaining the overall global strategic direction established by design leadership.

Partner with Senior Management in Production and Merchandising to ensure that business needs are met through creative and achievable designs.

Establish performance criteria for the design team, periodically review performance, and provide mentoring for the existing design staff as appropriate.

Promote innovation and creativity within the design team while balancing the business needs and product creation timelines.

Keep abreast of Market Trends/Consumer needs and product design in the apparel industry to ensure that Bebe product anticipates future trends, in addition to keeping abreast of our competitors.

Generate ideas, concepts, technologies, new initiatives and seasonal stories.

The successful candidate must be a great communicator who aligns well in a culture, which emphasizes ethics, trust, integrity and a passion for fashion and design.

 

 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS:

 

 

Strong Leadership skills including managing a team of 20 plus people.

Complete knowledge of apparel manufacturing process including materials, construction, color, and fit/pattern making and costing.

Ability to execute creative direction throughout multiple apparel collections throughout a season

A thorough knowledge of design, fashion, and sport for both the footwear and apparel industry and the ability to develop strategic and tactical plans utilizing that knowledge.

Organizational development, planning, product management, and customer knowledge are also required.

Ability to select, develop and lead a creative, results oriented winning team is a must.

The incumbent requires 10 + years of relevant design and design management experience along with a bachelors degree in design, art, engineering, or a design related field (a masters degree is a plus).

Proven track record in managing a design team in a multi-product category environment. Must have previous apparel design experience.

Must have outstanding negotiation and influencing skills.

Must have the ability to work in a collaborative team
