The First Officer is a Watch Keeping Officer in charge of a Navigational Watch. The first Officer is also assigned some of the following tasks: Keep maintenance records for all navigational equipment. Corrections to charts, pilot books, light lists and other nautical publications. Maintenance of all navigational lights, proper storage of signals, rockest, and other emergency signaling equipment. Supervise the maintenance of ship's lifeboats, rescue boats, tenders. Supervision of inspections and maintenance of the ship's portable fire fighting equipment. Ensure operation and inspection of watertight doors. Supervises testing of fire screen doors. In conjunction with Safety and Security Officers, and other marine officers, will train the crew in safety matters.
